Uphill Travel Policy

Uphill travel is a great way to experience the beauty of Stratton Mountain as well as the surrounding Green Mountains of Southern Vermont. Stratton Mountain is committed to providing an enjoyable and orderly experience for both uphill and downhill guests on the resort. We ask that everyone familiarizes themselves with the rules and guidelines of mountain bike uphill travel to ensure an enjoyable experience for all riders in the Stratton Bike Park.
Uphill Mountain Bike Travel is available on designated trails only, during and outside of the Bike Parks' operating hours.
You must sign the Assumption of Risk online document before mountain biking at Stratton.

Summer Uphill Policies
Uphill Travel Pass & Policies
All uphill travelers will be required to obtain an uphill travel pass and carry it on their person at all times.
Be prepared to present the pass to area personnel upon request.

EMERGENCIES
If you have an emergency on the mountain, please dial 802-297-4911 from your cell phone during hours of operation to reach our Bike Patrol dispatcher. You can also alert any Stratton employee or dial extension #2301 from any resort phone. Outside of operating hours, please call 911.
First Aid services may be available daily 7:00am – 5:00pm located at Ski Patrol First Aid in the Carlos Otis Clinic building below the base of the gondola.
Be prepared to present the pass to area personnel upon request.
- The MTB Uphill Travel Pass is free, valid for the entire season, and can be obtained at The Stratton Bike Shop (Junior Snow Sports School) or Guest Services outside ticket windows during operating hours.
- Outside of operating hours, you may obtain the Uphill Travel Pass at Ski Patrol First Aid in the Carlos Otis Clinic building, below the base of the gondola.
- You must read and agree to the uphill travel policy before accessing designated uphill routes.
- The uphill pass does not include any equipment or rentals.
- You do not need to reserve an uphill pass in advance.
- Uphill Mountain Bike Travel is available on designated trails only, during and outside of the Bike Parks' operating hours.

Any use of non-designated uphill trails will result in loss of Mountain Bike privileges. Descending bike always has the right of way.
Ground Control
1.0 mile – main base area by the Mountain Sports School building to the top of American Express.
This dedicated climbing trail can be ridden during and outside of operating hours. Once you reach the top, you may ride down any downhill mountain bike trail in the Bike Park.
Bear's Den
1.0 mile - Sun Bowl base Area to top of Trail Forest One
This trail is multidirectional at all times. Please note there may be riders in both directions at any time.

Play Safe Play Smart - Summer
- It is your responsibility to know where the designated uphill trails are.
- Uphill travel is limited to outside of operating hours.
- Be aware that mountain maintenance progress at any time.
- Be aware that ATVS and UTVS are routinely used on the mountain and may intersect the mountain bike trails.
- Trails are not checked or swept outside of operating hours and riders should exercise caution when riding.
- Bike Patrol is not on duty outside of operating hours and guests should call 911 if they have an emergency.
- All trails will be open for downhill riding unless there is a rope indicating that it is closed for maintenance.
- For your safety and the safety of our Trail Crew, please do not go under the ropes onto closed trails.
- Unmarked hazards may exist.
- Be aware of variable trail conditions.
- Please stay away from mountain equipment.
- Please stop to rest in an area where you are visible to riders above you, and avoid obstructing the trail.
EMERGENCIES
Patrol is open 7am - 5pm, 7 days a week. Our If you have an emergency on the mountain, please dial 911 from your cell phone as there are no emergency services located on resort outside of operating hours.
Equipment Requirements
To ride Stratton's downhill mountain bike trails you must have:
- Front Suspension
- Hand Brakes
- Knobby Tires
- Helmet
- Closed Toe Shoes

• Uphill travel is only recommended during daytime operating hours, and may close at any time due to snow conditions, weather or other unforeseen circumstances.

Trails marked with a purple dotted line are the only trails where hiking is permitted on the mountain. Depending on your pace and how you plan to descend, a round trip may take 2-4 hours on average. Please plan accordingly with daylight and temperatures.

Downloading
If you hike to the summit of the mountain via the uphill routes, you are allowed to download/ride the gondola back down to main base area during operating hours. Please note the lifts may close at any time due to weather or unforeseen circumstances, and a ride down may not be available. Please plan accordingly for all conditions.

- Dress warm as temperatures may change as you gain elevation
- Please plan sufficient time to hike down. Round trip averages 2 to 4 hours.
- It is your responsibility to know where these designated uphill trails are. Routes are marked by purple dotted lines on the winter trail map.
- Uphill travel is recommended only during operating hours.
- Be aware that snow making and grooming may be in progress at any time.
- Be aware that snowmobiles are routinely used on the mountain and may be driving the same routes.
- Unmarked hazards may exist, especially during early and late season.
- Be aware of variable snow conditions
- We recommend only hiking with traction devices; climbing skins, snowshoes, crampons, micro-spikes.
- Please stay away from snowmaking equipment, snowmobiles, grooming machines, etc.
- Please stay on downhill skiers left of all trails. Hiker’s right side when ascending the mountain.
- Wear brightly colored reflective clothing.
- All pets must be kept on a leash at all times.
- Please stop to rest in an area where you are visible to skiers and riders above you, and avoid obstructing the trail. Do not stop in trail intersections.
