Stratton means big mountain skiing and riding, so before you hit the slopes, map out your perfect day! Follow the sun from corduroy super-cruisers, steep and deep glades and No. 1 rated terrain parks to family friendly trails like Easy Street, a three mile easy-does-it trail from the summit of southern Vermont's highest peak.
The first thing you'll notice is that everything is just outside your door. In fact, Stratton has been voted one of the world's "Top 10 no car needed resorts." Check out ideas on everything from travel directions and parking to where you'll find the best breakfast, après entertainment, exhilarating experiences and tasty treats like Vermont's Taylor Farm Smoked Gouda
Close to Home
• One of the best things about Stratton is its convenient location in southern Vermont. While getting here by car is the most popular (we are located just 3 hours from Boston and 4 hours from New York City), busses and trains run into nearby Brattleboro (45 minutes) and Albany (1.5 hrs). Albany is also serviced by an international airport.
• If you're driving and downloading directions to the mountain, it is important that your destination be "Stratton Mountain" or "Bondville", VT. A search for "Stratton" will take you to the town of Stratton on the back side of the mountain.
• Please be aware of speed limits as you enter villages en route (30 mph through most places). Local residents don't appreciate your haste, even if you are anxious to get here.
• Have food waiting for you by calling ahead to Grizzly's or Mulligan's. You can dial directly from our mobile site. The best time to call is when you're in Brattleboro as it is 45 minutes away and may be the last cell service you have until you arrive.
Arrival & Check In
• If you are staying in one of the commons properties or condos, come directly to the Stratton Welcome Center for check in. If you're staying at the Inn at Stratton Mountain or the Liftline Lodge, follow signs directly to the Inn (the turn is on your left before the Welcome Center) and check in there.
• Every lodging property is within a short walk or shuttle from the slopes and the Stratton Village. The cobblestone street is filled with shops, restaurants, a spa, and more, where adults and children of any age and inclination will find something for them.
Lift Tickets and Season Passes
• For the best day lift ticket rates, purchase online 24 hours in advance.
• If you are really committed to saving money, the Stratton X2 Card gives you a free day of skiing or riding and will save you up to $30 every single time you come to the mountain.
Equipment
• Save yourself the hassle and try some of the latest ski and snowboard technology by renting a pair of Salomon skis or a Burton board for the day at Stratton rentals. Prices start at $26 for adults for the day or if you want to try some of the latest model equipment, demo a pair of skis at First Run Ski Shop for $50/ day on weekends and holidays.
• A seasonal equipment lease allows you to rent for the entire season with options that provide you with complimentary storage and tuning on the mountain. A Gold Package lease from Stratton Sports provides perks such as access to all of the shop's rental equipment, overnight storage all season long, and complimentary tuning.
Dressing for the Weather
• While your old neon green and orange one piece may be experiencing a comeback, you may want to have a back-up plan in case it doesn't last. Stratton recently opened Burton @ Stratton and The North Face Summit Shop giving you access to all the latest styles in technical outerwear Searching for a one of a kind outfit? Try North America's only Bogner store in the Village.
• Look at the weather forecast prior to leaving for the hill. Layer appropriately and err on the side of caution as you can always take layers off if it gets too hot, but you can't put them on if you don't have them.
Forgot something?
Affordable yet essential items such as goggles, neck and face protection, glove and boot warmers, etc., can be purchased at multiple shops around the mountain, such as First Run, Stratton Sports, Equipe, Burton at Stratton, and more.
Skiing and Riding
• More experienced skiers and snowboarders may stick with top to mid-mountain runs, taking the six person capacity URSA and Shooting Star lifts up to the summit.
• When it comes to lifts, Stratton has the fastest fleet in the east allowing you to cover a lot of vertical. A twelve person capacity gondola and four high speed 6-pack lifts are designed to maximize the amount of time you spend skiing or riding.
• When it comes to terrain, Stratton's unparalleled snowmaking capacity, gold medal grooming, challenging glades, and top rated terrain parks are enough to keep any level skier or rider busy for some time. Find your own way or follow a few staff and locals recommendations:
Beginner
Try Easy Street, a newly launched, three mile long, family friendly trail that starts at the summit and winds down to the base through Mike's Way, West Meadow, Drifter Link and Old Log Road. Mountain Patrol will be stationed along the route as a reminder that this trail is designed for an easy-does-it style of skiing and riding.
Intermediate
Sunriser Supertrail is a wide open trail that gets great light particularly in the early part of the day. Later on, try Drifter and wind your way down from the top and over some fun rollers.
Expert
Upper Spruce and Polar Bear are popular multi-pitch diamonds that will keep even the best skier or rider amused. For a real challenge though, take to the woods on a good snow day and enjoy the natural features of the Test Pilot glade located off skiers right on Upper Kidderbrook. You have to keep your eyes peeled though or you may miss the entrance.
Alternative Activities
Skiing and riding are not the only activities at the mountain. Here are a couple:
Check your email, fill your belly and satiate your hankering for some caffeine in one stop. Wired at the Copper Cup in the Stratton Village is your wireless coffee shop hot spot.
When the moon is full, join our snowshoe guide for a walk to the Pearl Buck House on the rolling hills of the Stratton Golf Course.
Your kids may enjoy The Wreck, an "under 21" hangout spot that features a Skate Park, Climbing Wall, Video games, Pool, Air Hockey, and more.
Go ice skating on Mill Pond on Saturdays and select holidays. Ice skates are available to borrow but supplies are limited.
Treat yourself or a loved one to an 85 minute Total Transformation Massage at the Spa at Stratton Mountain or head down to the Stratton Sports Center where you can use the huge selection of fitness equipment, swim in the pool, relax in the hot tub, get a massage, play tennis indoors, or even go tanning.
Ski School, Lessons, Childcare
• Both private and group lessons are available for all ages along with full-day, instructional programs for Little Cubs (ages 4 to 6) and Big Cubs (ages 7 to 12). Certified day care for children age 6 weeks and older is available in the bright, new Child Care Center conveniently located in the Main Base Lodge.
• Remember to reserve your spot in advance as spaces fill up quickly.
Apres
• Grizzly's is the staple of the Stratton après scene, having served cold brews, specialty drinks and a tasty bar menu for years. Keep your eyes peeled for daily beer specials (different beer every day), wood fired pizza (served "to go"), and come on a Thursday night for a raucous time playing the video game "Rock Band" on the big screen.
• For a more mellow après scene, try out Mulligan's in the Village or the famous Green Door Pub which caters to a younger and perhaps more "gnarly" clientele with two pool tables and foosball.
Dinner
• From pub fare to fine dining, you can find it at Stratton without having to leave the resort. Try Mulberry Street at the end of the Village for Italian Cuisine or Mulligan's at the opposite end for more traditional American food.
• If you appreciate great cuisine, DO NOT miss chef Rogan Lecthaler's fresh, locally derived fare at Verde. Extensive wine and dessert menus along with a great ambience combine to make this is a can't miss spot. Reservations are recommended.
Nightlife
• The younger crowd tends to gather at The Green Door Pub while Mulligan's seems to cater to an older crowd. Mulberry Street will often cater to both depending on the night but none of this is set in stone.
