Present & Future

At the age of 15, most American kids are shuffling through high school hallways and those that are lucky enough, are able to escape to the mountains for an occasional weekend of skiing and snowboarding, but Stratton Mountain’s own Brooke Shaw has broken through the mold of the typical teenager, to become one of the most promising young snowboarders in the world.

Brooke has grown up riding at Stratton Mountain with her friend, mentor and Olympic Silver Medalist, Lindsey Jacobellis. With Jacobellis’ inspiration, Brooke has been nipping at the heals of women twice her age in national snowboarding competitions. This season Shaw added to her long list of wins with one of the most impressive contest resume’s in snowboarding.

Amid a rigorous academic schedule on the road, Brooke lit up her 2006-2007 contest calendar with a series of wins, beginning with a first place finishes in Boardercross, Slalom and Giant Slalom at the United States of America Snowboarding Association’s (USASA) Copper Mountain Series in the 14-15 year old class. She then went on to take the top of the podium in the event’s halfpipe and boardercross in the Open Division. She stayed on her winning streak at Copper with another first place finish in the Federation of International Skiing (FIS) NorAm Boardercross event. From there she took a pair of second place finishes at the USASA Revolution Tour at Mt. Bachelor in the Open Class and a second place in boardercross and first in halfpipe at the Revolution Tour’s stop at Spirit Mountain.

Following this series of high profiles wins, Brooke’s young talent caught the eye of the action sports network, Fuel TV, and their program New Pollution, which aired February 25.
