STRATTON MOUNTAIN, VT- There is no principal, detention will never be served, homework will be optional, classes will often be held outside, and waitresses will often be substituted for lunch ladies. Yet summer school will most definitely be in session at Stratton Mountain for those looking for some extra credit. Some might say that summer is the best time to come to southern Vermont and Stratton Mountain Resort. While always synonymous with great skiing and riding, to those in the know, Stratton is also inexorably linked to summertime activities such as golf, tennis, hiking and much more. Enroll in Golf University or at The Gunterman Tennis School and educate your game.
The staple of Stratton’s summer activities is the world famous Stratton Golf University. Founded by Arnold Palmer in 1969, Golf U has been improving scores and handicaps for more than 35 years! The school focuses on individualized attention to the macro and micro facets of its student’s golf game, and creates a personalized program that is guaranteed to produce positive results. Not only is the instruction exceptional but the Stratton Mountain Golf Course is considered one the best in New England. Designed by famed golf course architect Geoffrey Cornish, the 27-hole course has hosted six LPGA tour events and features three distinct nine-hole layouts. Each has a different character, and features imaginative holes that will entertain and challenge any level golfer.
Tennis is another featured activity during the Stratton summer season. The Gunterman Tennis School offers a variety of packages that will fit any schedule, budget, and ability. With a 4:1 student to instructor ratio, seven hard courts, eight har-tru courts, indoor courts and a video stroke analysis, The Gunterman Tennis School has been voted a top 25 tennis camp in North America by tennisresortsonline.com and number one overall in New England according to Court Time Magazine. The school offers two and five day sessions between May 17 and October 12. For the burgeoning young tennis player, there is the Stratton Junior Tennis Day Camp running from June through August.
In addition to or in lieu of golf and tennis, there is so much to do at Stratton in the summer that there will never be a dull moment. Hike a section of Vermont’s famous Long Trail that runs over the Summit of Stratton Mountain, take the short drive over to Manchester and spend the day shopping at the first class outlets, enjoy a morning fly-fishing along the banks of some of the best trout rivers in the East, ride the gondola to the top of Stratton Mountain which is the highest peak in southern Vermont, or relax in the Stratton Village enjoying the many shops, bars, restaurants, and more.
Stratton is also the perfect hub for sport touring or recreational motorcycling. Situated in the heart of the southern Green Mountains, it is a short ride some of the best riding routes and scenic sites in the country. Additionally, Stratton offers covered parking and group tours of the area led by local riders.
