Stratton Mountain Resort's Commitment to Sustainability, Stewardship, and a Green Existence

 

Stratton Mountain, VT- What does one get when they cross the highest peak in southern Vermont, a single stream recycling program, a thriving natural wildlife habitat, 600 skiable acres, enough renewable energy credits to offset 100% of electricity consumption, a fleet of Toyota hybrid corporate vehicles, renewable energy credit purchasing incentives, and three Silver Eagle Awards?.. Stratton Mountain Resort!  Here are some of the recent steps and initiatives that we have taken to reduce our ecological impact and preserve the mountain we love:

 

           The development of a cutting edge Forest Management Plan that takes care of necessary logging while protecting habitat local black bear and other wildlife habitat.  Timber from project is sustainably harvested by Allard Lumber and sold to Copeland Furniture of Brandon, VT, who will manufacture two line of FSC certified, local Vermont hardwood furniture.  For the full story, visit: stratton.com/mediaroom/summer2008/Forest_Management.htm

 

           Investing half a million dollars in snowmaking energy efficiency programs including…

o       40 new low E tower guns which increase snow particle size leaving flakes less susceptible to wind, reducing air consumption and saving energy dollars, increases snow output, and reduces small snow particle fog.

o       The installation of a more efficient VFD pump which provides up to 30% energy savings with an Efficiency VT rebate attached to it.

o       A New 1700 cfm air compressor which creates 20 â€" 30% more energy efficient and better overall output.

 

 

           Stratton is nominated for its 4th Silver Eagle Award for Fish and Wildlife Habitat Management.
