Stratton Welcomes New Head Golf Pro

Matthew McPhillips Tees It Up at the Golf School and Country Club

STRATTON MOUNTAIN, VERMONT, March 09, 2011 – Stratton Mountain Resort announces the return of Matthew McPhillips to the Green Mountains in his new roles as Head Golf Professional at the Stratton Mountain Country Club and Assistant Golf School Director, joining Robin Rasch and the rest of the Stratton Golf School Team.

Lifelong golfer, McPhillips has a strong history with Stratton golf, most recently as golf school teaching pro in 2010. He first arrived from Australia in 2006 to work as golf shop assistant at the Country Club. Two seasons in that position allowed him to become familiar with the resort's 27 hole championship course and enchanted with southern Vermont.

"The heavens aligned," McPhillips said about the circumstances of his return to Stratton. "This is a great opportunity. It's going to be a great opportunity."

McPhillips began competing in golf tournaments at the ripe age of nine. The son of Australian diplomats, McPhillips has spent time on the links across the globe. He spent the 2008 season competing as an amateur golfer in southeastern Australia, returning to Stratton in 2009 at the behest of Country Club General Manager, Tony Lake. He is currently working towards earning his PGA Certification.

 "I've worked for both locations for a few years," McPhillips continued, referencing the Country Club and the Golf School, "and I'm looking forward to blending the two."

Also new to golf at Stratton this summer is the selection of Junior Golf Programs. From beginners to established athletes, 7 years of age through college, the Junior Programs focus on the fundamentals of athleticism specific to golf, building towards agility, balance, coordination and speed.
