STRATTON MOUNTAIN, VT – 44 year-old Mary Dolan of Wilton, Connecticut was the fastest up the 2,003 foot mountain course, taking home the overall title in 25:12 at Stratton's annual North Face Race to the Summit.
"The race is so much fun and really isn't your typical race," Dolan said. "I'm psyched to win because I thought there were guys in front of me the entire race."
Skyler Davis, a cross-country skier from the Stratton Mountain School won the men's title in 25:35. He started the race strong, but like many in the field, his pace slowed down as the course moved above the clouds and the terrain got slicker.
"The race is a really great workout," Davis said. "It's tremendous to see the community come together for an event like this.
The race, part of Stratton Mountain Resort's Columbus Day Weekend Harvestfest featured over 200 competitors and raised nearly $17,000 for local charities, including local teen Bridgette Eichhorn, who is in need of a kidney transplant. All participants received a 'North Face' race tee-shirt for their efforts.
"We are so very blessed to have such a wonderful family and friends as well as a community where we are fortunate enough to raise our children in," said a statement from the Eichhorn family.
Other highlights of the weekend included Kurt Williams and his Jive 'Talkin' Turkey Chili's victory in the annual and a beer fest featuring regional favorites like Switchback, Otter Creek and Long Trail Ale.
The event also showed off Vermont's vivacious foliage, currently in peak here in Southern Vermont and marked the end of fall gondola rides up the mountain.
