J-V and (J-VI) Development Team

Development Program is made up of seven year olds.  This group is sometimes referred to as the Junior 6 or J-VI.  This group focuses primarily on basic skill development, exploring varied terrain and participating in a couple of "fun" races.

The J-V program is for 8, 9, and 10 year olds.  For most of these young athletes this will be their first experience with gate training.  The primary focus will continue to be mastering the fundamental skills of contemporary skiing, however athletes will also receive an introduction to tactics for Giant Slalom (GS).  For most of these children this will be their first opportunity to experience competition.  There are approximately five races for this age group.

Alpine Racing is in session all weekends beginning November 29, 2008 – March 29, 2009
Winter Break: December 26, 2008 - January 4, 2009  (Please note: programs will not be in session on Christmas Day)
Martin Luther King Weekend: January 17-19, 2009
President's Week: February 16 -20, 2008

The schedule for our Southern Vermont Council Races will be published at www.VARA.org
Click on the race calendar – or better yet – on Race Lists under Racing in the left column.
At the bottom of that page, where it says season race list, you can click on a filter.  Choose [SVC] and you will have the race schedule.  This is a great website for all of your information needs.  If you look under Council, you will find the SVC rules, schedules and results for each age group.  You should also visit www.USSA.org .
We will send an entry list to each mountain for the races.  Please remember that children need to be members of both USSA and VARA to compete. Please remember to bring your cards to each race for registration.
