J-I and J-II

Updated for 2008-2009: J-I and J-II Training Schedule

General Info:

The J-II and J-I compete together.  They range in age from 15 and 16 for the II's and 17, 18, and 19 for the I's.  At this level most of the training involves gate training.  These athletes are now competing for USSA points.  Some of the athletes at this level begin competing for ski academies; however STC has many athletes from high school ski teams from all over the Northeast.

The athlete must send in a paid voucher to each host mountain to insure entry.  To do this, you can print the vouchers from the VARA website at www.vara.org or with the link below. You may want to print all the vouchers for the season and send each one in with your check as soon as you can.  You may do this as soon as you are sure you are going to a race.  It is the responsibility of the racer to get his/her list of races they will be attending to Robbin Gibson as soon as possible. Robbin can be reached at rgibson@intrawest.com or at 279-4516.  She will send them in around 3 weeks prior to the race date.  If there are any changes or updates to your athletes schedule please let us know as early as you can.

• Balanced athletic stance – Balanced - Efficient - Athletic Position
• Dynamic Balance – Maintaining balance in motion
• Re-centering – Returning to the a balanced athletic stance during transitions
• Pressure – Weight transfer under the center of mass to ably early pressure to the new ski.
• Body direction – Active movement in direction of turn
• Angulation – Create required ski edge angles

Technical Season Goals:

• Ski linked turns of varying size and speed through all terrain and conditions relying primarily on skeletal support at all times.
• Exhibit appropriate balance and stance while skiing a complete variety of terrain, conditions, turn shape and size.
• Is able to pressure the skis into the fall line in short radius turns and exit the fall line with a carved arc.
• Exhibits knowledge of pressure and demonstrates how to manage it during changes in terrain
• Has refined the ability to ski and compete in all types of snow conditions and terrain with equal success.
• Has been exposed to, and is adaptable to, all of the variables of terrain, snow conditions and course types.
• Will be able to use appropriate edging and pressure control to ski effectively in all types of course length and conditions.
• Utilize the entire space available between gates to complete the required change of direction, and minimize the effect of ski/snow friction to link turns with the minimum amount of traverse possible.
