1, Sharpen the edges, when nearing the end of your season it is good to get your edges sharpened and your bases taken care of to cross one thing off the to do list in the fall.
2, Clean your bases, when the weather warms up in the spring and the snow on the mountain starts to melt all sort of dirt and debris works its way to the surface. Once this dirt and debris is on your base it is hard for any wax application to really get absorbed into the base making for a poor lasting wax requiring more frequent applications of wax.
3,Coat the base in storage wax, once the ski or board bases are prepped and cleaned use an iron to apply a good coat of wax, using a little more wax than usual run the iron slowly along the base allowing some of the extra wax to run down the edges giving them a good coat for protection.
4, Use ski ties, \with your skis it is a great idea to store using ski ties (we sell them at First Run), ski ties have either a piece of rubber or foam that you put betweeen the bases allowing air to flow freely between the bases during this long period of storage further preventing any unnecessary damage to the edges or bases being stored in summer humidity.
5, Store your gear in a dry place , it can be difficult during the summer to find a good dry place to store your gear with the humidity but if you are lucky to have that dry space, this prevents rust forming on the edges, but if you followed the steps above you are ahead of the game already. With skis it also is good for the bindings to be in that dry place because there is metal in the bindings and keeping the free from unnecessary moisture will prolong the life of a safe binding.
GOOD NEWS! Here at First Run we can take care of all of that for you! Drop off your skis and we will make sure your edges are sharp, bases are clean, coated in storage wax and stored in a nice dry place for the summer, and if you are leaving skis drop off a boot and we will make sure your bindings are calibrated and ready to go for the season.
ALL FOR $99, Call the shop or stop in for more information. If all you want is a storage wax applied we can do that also for $15.
